This week marked Catholic Schools Week, the theme this year being ‘Catholic Schools as Communities of Service'.
Pupils celebrated this special week in our Faith calendar by completing lessons and activities around this theme. All the children attended a beautiful Grandparents’ Day Mass as part of our celebrations on Thursday and Catholic Schools Week culminated today in a very special Grandparent's Coffee Morning.
It was fantastic to have so many parents & grandparents in school today and the children loved sharing a cup of tea with them all, giving them a tour of their classrooms and showcasing some of the special activities they have completed this week as part of the ‘Catholic Schools as Communities of Service' theme.
Today was a wonderful way to mark the conclusion to Catholic Schools Week 2024 and we are very grateful to everyone for supporting the children throughout this special week.
It was lovely to have Mrs Maguire from St Malachy’s High School in Castlewellan visit our Primary 6 and Primary 7 children yesterday ahead of the St Malachy’s Open Day this Saturday.
The children were treated to a very insightful video of daily life in St Malachy’s and all that the school has to offer.
We were delighted to welcome Deirbhile from Trocaire to St Mary's today as she delivered the first session of the Trocaire Game Changers programme to our Primary 7 children.
Game changers is a programme for young people who want to learn about issues affecting our world today. Game changers encourages young people to engage with global justice issues by creating either board, card or digital games.
Primary 7 will now begin the task of creating their own games based around current global issues for the Programme with the view to entering them into the Game Changers competition in March.
Well done to Amelia in Primary 6 who plays soccer for Ballynagross FC and was recently nominated as Under-10 Player of the Week.
Amelia had the opportunity to display her trophy to the rest of the children at our weekly whole school assembly today and should be very proud of her achievement!
Well done Amelia!
Keep up the great work! ๐
