As part of our Maths Week Ireland celebrations children from Primary 4 to Primary 7 took part in ‘Ireland Rocks’ in which they competed against other children throughout the island in answering as many multiplication and division questions correctly as they can within a set playing period.
The competition was fierce with more than 304 schools and 1,130 classes participating around the country.
We are incredibly excited to announce that St Mary's came 5th place in Ireland Rocks and 1st place in Co Down - a competition open to both Primary and Secondary Schools across the country.
Our top class - Primary 6 was the highest scoring class in the whole of Ireland and highest in Co. Down, our Primary 7 class came 2nd in Co. Down and Primary 5 came 10th.
Individually we had the top five scoring pupils in Co. Down with Eoin Surginor, Madden McEvoy, James McGreevy, Rossa Curran and Dara Gilchrist taking the top spots with a further eight children in the top fifty in Co. Down.
Eoin Surginor came 10th overall in all of Ireland - a truly incredible achievement for a Primary 6 pupil considering he was up against top competition from secondary schools across the island.
I am sure you can appreciate that these stats are out of this world, and we are so proud of everyone!
