What a fantastic day for our team at the FunFit East Down GAA competition held today at St John’s GAC, where we were crowned Cup champions after a brilliant run of performances.
The team showed great determination from the outset, overcoming St Mary’s PS Dechomet in the quarter-final before producing an excellent display in the semi-final against Holy Family PS, Teconnaught to book their place in the final.
Awaiting them in the decider were Our Lady & St Patrick PS, Downpatrick. In a game full of excitement and drama, neither side could be separated at full time. Extra time followed and we looked to have done enough after taking the lead, but OLSP struck with the final kick of the match to send the game to penalties.
The shootout produced some unforgettable moments. Alfie was outstanding in goals, making two crucial saves, before Rossa confidently buried his penalty into the top corner. With the final penalty of the tournament, Alfie pulled off another superb stop to seal a memorable victory for the team.
This was an unbelievable achievement for our team - their teamwork, determination and resilience throughout the day were exceptional and they should all be incredibly proud of what they achieved.
Attention now turns to the FunFit Down GAA Cup Final on Friday 22nd May, where the team will face St Bronagh’s PS Rostrevor, the South Down champions.
